Buckets of thanks 12.6.18

It feels very much like time to thank people again for all the cards, emails, letters, texts, WhatsApps, telephone calls, offers (delivered) of allotment help, scarves, hats, caps, flowers, visits, seeds, potting up of seedlings, food, dog sitting, books, invitations to visit - what have I forgotten?
I still feel overwhelmed by all this and totally undeserving - so thank you, thank you, thank you everyone. I haven't managed to thank people individually - I have truly been overwhelmed and just haven't had time to respond to everyone.

Right now, am rushing round like blue-arsed fly trying to do all the things on my lists before having to arrive at UCH at 7am on Wednesday morning. As always when rushing, things go wrong - in this case a full mug of hot chocolate has gone over the light-coloured carpet so I have wasted half an  hour blotting and damping and blotting and washing - and it's still going to need a carefully-placed rug.

I'm hoping for an allotment session this afternoon - this is both a very effective distraction and my investment in an active future. Got sweet corn, leeks and brassicas in over the last week or so and planning to plant swede, fennel and more cabbages later today.

First stop at UCH tomorrow will be the enema station (a first for me). I will have had my  last food before midnight and my last drink at 6am, which has to be two glasses of Powerade or Gatorade (another first) to supply energy etc for the duration. No milk, no fizzy drinks - the mind boggles at what might happen during the op should one have had two glasses of the forbidden fizzy Lucozade instead of the still P or G ade…. fizz fizz pop! Please refer to previous blog post cartoon.

Then it seems like a very short period of time until 8:30am in which to have more blood tests, see the surgeon again, have a discussion with the anaesthetist, get into a gown which has been cunningly constructed to confuse and count down from 99 to 98 zzzzz…....

  1. A massive day for you today Jan, which somehow you manage to write about in your usual witty, engaging style. You do deserve all the support we can give you, you who are very much loved by so many. You deserve it. See you the other side of this big day.

  2. You do know that everyone is supportive because we are all grateful for you!? No need to be grateful back, just keep using whatever you need from us to make getting better as quick and as easy (bad word I know) as is humanly possible, bye bye unwelcome visitor! Love you Janet, glad yesterday is now yesterday. X
