GETTING THE BLOOD PRESSURE DOWN - 23 JANUARY 2021
I have taken the exercise plunge and done two days of Couch to 5K. Started Wednesday - damp and drizzly and there was a need to gather some allotment produce. No question of doing the running bits with a bag on my back, so I had to wear footwear suited to digging a couple of leeks from saturated ground. I certainly didn't want to wear my nice, new, luminously white Christmas-present-from-son trainers on such a filthy day.
So I downloaded the first day's encouraging spiel and set off in walking boots, muddy trackies, old hoodie and allotment coat, ears wired. The 20-minute routine took me to the allotment, round the site twice and then back and forth in front of the (closed for foreseeable future) trading shed. Confess that the wholly unsuitable gear built me a good excuse to walk the whole lot if necessary, but I did manage it although the normal definition of 'run' took a beating. After the initial brisk walk, most of it felt pretty miserable; nay, nigh on impossible, but it was great when it stopped! Gathered a few muddy veg then set off for home with two carrier bags, aware of looking even more disreputable than usual.
Yesterday was Day 2 - same as Day 1. The sun was out and the tarmac was dry so out came those trainers to pound the pavements. Even more apprehensive this time - when you've done it once, there's more to lose. But I made it round again and even felt warm enough to take my hat and fleece off and try for some Vit D on the walk home. Warm enough for remaining hair to get a bit sweaty...
Much too soon to say, but home BP readings are comfortingly lower than they often are - will clearly have to continue.
STOP PRESS - VACCINE APPOINTMENT ON 28 JANUARY!
WOO! Vaccine! And impressed by the running. You put me to shame. I'm more like a 5k to couch person. Fingers crossed with the BP xx
ReplyDeleteBrilliant news on the vaccine, I've tried the couch to 5k but it kills my dodgy knee so good luck and hope it works
