EP0057-201 Phase 2A Trial - two days after infusion - 15 October 2021

Well - so far I've felt a lot better than on the previous carboplatin + extra poison regimes. Domperidone and dexamethasone keeping on top of nausea nicely - tempting to think of not taking them, but prevention probably the best thing. Haven't needed to take ondansetron in the night although slightly nauseous when awake. Which has been quite a lot of the time as the dexamethasone seems especially active this time around. 😮Didn't even lie down on the sofa yesterday - instead did continuous pottering in the kitchen - made an inventory of what was in the freezer, a pan of minestrone, a not-very-good batch of sour dough, a tray of  flapjacks, and prepped and juiced a lot of allotment apples before they went completely mouldy.  This with the juicer obtained from our street WhatsApp group which has turned into a recyling site. I found a home for the boy's prom suit there the other day - with a twinge of regret as he had looked so handsome in it - but a 25-year old is just not the same size as an 18-year old.

So again I write from the Macmillan Living Room. As proof of how much better I'm feeling than on previous regimens, I cycled in, despite two wakeful nights and getting up with a bit of a temperature and a scratchy throat - Christopher's cold has hit me. He insistes on calling it a supercold because he says Evan Davis said it was on the Today programme - even though I don't think Evan Davis works on Today any more. This required calling the trial practitioner again - luckily the extra Covid swab they did on infusion day had come back negative and I did a lateral flow at home which was also negative - so good to go.

Cycle ride achieved, first stop was the Trials Pharmacy in the main hospital where I collected a big box, then over to the Centre where the trial practitioner did my vitals (am going to have to start taking BPs at home again as they are getting higher in the hospital) and timed me taking the first olaparib dose. This had high embarassment potential as it was something of a test. Opening the ziploc bag hindered by residual peripheral neuropathy, opening the box hindered by my failure to spot the thumb latch on the non-opening end, and then a further intelligence test inside! The olaparib for the maintenance trial was just four plastic pots of identical tablets for the month.

Then a physical exam with a doctor. Coffee kiosk in the Centre down due to electricity failure, presumably just in their corner, so I had to go to Pret a Manger on Tottenham Court Road for my hot choc - 👎- not hot, all the chocolate in a sludge at the bottom and not tasty even when mixed in.
Bloods taken one hour after olaparib, another hour in the Living Room and then another set of vitals two hours after olaparib and then I think I'll be free to go! Dexamethasone says I can cycle home.
