CARBOPLATIN + GEMCITABINE CHEMO - CYCLE 1 DAY 10 - 9 JUNE 2022
This is the 'extra-dose' day - after carboplatin and gemcitabine a week ago, today it's a top up of gemcitabine. Last week went the usual post-chemo way - some nauseous episodes, tired, brain fogged, demotivated, taste buds AWOL or overwrought, mouth sore, guts grumbling, 24-hour farmyard syndrome. Nervous about the next few days, but the word on the street is that gemcitabine as a single agent is reasonably well tolerated.
Usual observations done without any waiting; cannulated without drama by health care assistant and whisked away by Nurse Educator to have my metoclopramide pre-med pill. I'll be out of here before Christopher's made it home at this rate. The Nurse Educator also has an allotment which is also bindweed-prone.
I've been re-reading a book club book - We are all completely beside ourselves by Karen Joy Fowler. It's a book which omits a key fact for quite a while - for very sound narrative reasons - so it's interesting to return to it with some recollection from the first time round. I'd also heard the Radio 4 Book Club programme on it in the interim and gained extra reading clues.
All done - back in the Living Room waiting for my lift. Hot chocolate and banana all gone. Feel a bit airy fairy and dozy - that'll be the metoclopramide, so could be an excuse for some sofa zzzzs at home after lunch.
You bought me that book for my birthday years ago, I remember reading it in my bed in my new house thinking it was standard family drama stuff, then you get torpedoed from your expectations! It's quite funny when you're in the know? A book I would never have bought that sits awaiting a child to have it recommended to them. So glad you have more freedom, the tomatoes will need you on the front line, the slugs and snails have enlisted an army this year! X
ReplyDeleteWe Are All Completely Beside Ourselves is such a memorable book, I so loved it.
ReplyDeleteAm amazed that you can read when fogged up with all those meds. Hope post single agent is gentler on you than the previous week's double whammy.
